Commencement Health and Safety Requirements

Updated: May 3, 2022

Mount Holyoke College is pleased to be hosting not one but two in-person Commencement ceremonies and Reunion Weekends this year and looks forward to celebrating with our graduates and alums on campus. The College recognizes this is a special moment for so many members of our community as well as their families and loved ones and is planning vibrant, memorable events while also prioritizing the health and safety of those in attendance.

To that end, all campus health and safety protocols, including masking requirements, will be in effect. Masks that cover the mouth and nose must be worn indoors at all times (except when eating or drinking), and three-layer masks or KN95s are highly recommended. Guests on campus should keep a mask with them at all times and follow the health and safety instructions noted in buildings, tents and other areas. Those staying overnight in residence halls should note that masks are not required in private spaces, such as dorm rooms.

Guests attending Commencement, Reunion and/or related events are required to be up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccination series OR must have received either a negative COVID PCR test within three days of arrival on campus or a negative COVID rapid antigen test within one day of arrival on campus. Please plan ahead of time accordingly. Guests experiencing any symptoms associated with COVID-19 will not be permitted to attend events on campus.

Please note: Seasonal allergy symptoms can be similar to COVID-19 symptoms. If a guest is experiencing what they believe are allergy symptoms, they should take a self-test prior to coming to campus and if their result is positive, they should NOT come to campus.

Adherence to these requirements is critical to mitigating the spread of COVID-19, and your cooperation will help to keep our community, guests and visitors as safe as possible during these upcoming events. Questions and concerns should be directed to commencement@mtholyoke.edu

Welcome Tent and Guest Registration

All guests visiting campus Commencement weekend must register at the Welcome Tent and verify vaccination or testing status. Guests will receive a wristband to access any buildings or events throughout the weekend. It is very important that this be the first stop for guests when arriving for the weekend in order to prevent any delay or inconvenience.

Special notes for graduating students

Students who have been on campus regularly throughout the spring semester, either living and/or taking classes, should continue testing according to their regular schedule up until graduation. Students who leave campus for a few days during the lead-up to Senior Week and Commencement should test at their very first opportunity upon returning for Senior Week events.

Students who have not been on campus during the spring semester but who will be staying in a residence hall during Senior Week and Commencement must report directly to the testing center upon arrival to campus and before receiving a key to their residence hall. At residence hall check-in, those who have not tested will be sent to the testing center. December graduates staying on campus should follow this procedure.

Students participating in very few activities and not staying in residence halls are required to follow the same guidelines outlined for Commencement guests and must be up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccination series OR must have received either a negative COVID PCR test within three days of arrival on campus or a negative COVID rapid antigen test within one day of arrival on campus. Please plan ahead of time accordingly.
