There will be books for purchase at the Odyssey Bookstore. If you choose to purchase the text from another source it is your responsibility to make sure that you have the correct edition ready for use when classes begin.

Goals: By the end of the course you should be able to recognize functions given
  • numerically
  • graphically
  • algebraically
  • in words
You will gain confidence in your ability to manipulate and interpret functions. You will also be familiar with important families of functions including
  • linear functions
  • polynomials
  • trigonometric functions
  • exponential functions
  • logarithms

Homework: Weekly homework will be due on Wednesdays. I will tell the graders that they can pick it up outside my office after 4pm. I encourage you to start working on the homework early and to talk to each other and to me if you need help. I encourage you to work with other students, but you should write up your assignments by yourself in your own words. You also need to acknowledge any help that you receive, from people or from written sources. You can write the names of your helpers at the top of you assignment. Late work may be accepted under certain circumstances. However, feedback will likely not be timely.

Evening help: There is evening help available on the fourth floor of Clapp from 7-10pm Sunday-Thursday each week. There is a special tutor for pre-calculus on Tuesday nights.
Quizzes: There will be weekly quizzes on Fridays.
ella work: We will also have frequent very short ella assignments. After each class I will ask you to look at a few (2-4) problems from the book to check your understanding of the material covered and to better prepare you for class discussion the following day. I may ask you to give very short repsonses to these questions on ella. You will receive full credt for a thoughtful response. Thoughtful responses include the correct answer, an incorrect response, a question letting me know where you are stuck. Your ella work will be counted as part of your class work and participation grade.
Grading: Your grade for the course will be computed as follows:

Homework, class work and participation: 15%
Quizzes: 20%
Exam I (tentatively scheduled for 10/9): 20%
Exam II (tentatively scheduled for 11/13): 20%
Final: 25%
