Mars Mossbauer Data MER-B (Opportunity)
The Mars Exploration Rovers acquired the first extraterrestrial Mossbauer data! The data are posted on the web in raw form at http://anserver1.eprsl.wustl.edu/anteam/merb/merb.htm. These data have been processed and reformatted from the publicly-released data. Note that all spectra have been inverted from the backscatter format (peaks point up!) to "transmission" format (peaks down!), in order to make the data directly accceptable to fitting routines developed for typical laboratory spectra. The posted sample spectra include the data summed over all of the detector gamma windows, and are interpolated onto a linear velocity scale. Further information is provided in the header on each cnt-formatted file. See "Velocity scales for Mars Mössbauer data," D.G. Agresti, M.D. Dyar, and M.W, Schaefer, Hyperfine Interactions (2006) 170:67-74, doi:10.1007/s10751-006-9472-5, and references therein.
The photo to the left is representative of this mineral group; however, it is not the same sample on which spectra listed below were measured.
