The software we will use is the Jython Environment for Students (JES), developed by the authors of the textbook. The Python programming language was originally written in C, another language, but a version is now available written in Java. It goes by the awful name of Jython. The JES system builds on Jython to provide many functions for the manipulation of images and sounds.
You can put this system on your own computer by going to the google code repository, downloading and installing. Give it a try!
