MATH 101(02)
  FALL 2003

Announcements:

  • December 11, 2003: I've graded the last writing assignment and homework assignment. You can collect your papers from the bench just outside my office (403 Clapp). When the earlier assignments come back from the grader, I'll put them on the bench, too.

  • December 10, 2003: We'll have a review session on Thursday, December 11, from 3:00 - 4:30 in 401 Clapp, our usual classroom.

  • December 8, 2003: There are some new practice problems on the Resource page on material that we covered after Hour Exam III. You can assemble your own practice final by picking a few problems from each of the Hour Exams and a few of the new problems.

  • November 18, 2003: Here is a link to some instructions for implementing Newton's method on a TI-83, TI-85, or TI-89.

  • November 15, 2003: You can find Practice Exam III on the Resource page.

  • October 20, 2003: You can find a practice version of Hour Exam II on the Resource page. There is also a set of complete solutions to the practice test.

  • September 25, 2003: I'll have extra office hours this afternoon from 4:00 until 6:00, to get ready for tomorrow's hour exam.

  • September 22, 2003: You can find a Practice Exam for Hour Exam I on the Resource page. There's also a version with the solutions.

  • September 13, 2003: The solution to Quiz 1 is available from the Resources page.

  • September 8, 2003: Walk-in Calculus Help Sessions will begin this evening. The sessions are held in 401 and 402 Clapp from 7 - 10 on Sunday through Thursday evenings. Any of the TA's should be able to help you. Four of them are assigned specifically to our section. They are Tracy Gardner (Sunday), Laura Rieber (Monday), Dina Jaber (Wednesday) and Langhan Dee (Thursday).

  • September 2, 2003: The textbook for the course is
Single Variable Calculus: Early Transcendentals by James Stewart, fifth edition, Wadsworth, 2002.

There are plenty of copies at the Odyssey.

Can you use the fourth edition? The exposition was changed very little between the fourth and fifth editions of this book, but the numbers in the exercises were changed just enough to make it very inconvenient to use the earlier edition for doing your homework. If you try to use the fourth edition in class, you'll have to check every day to make sure you get the correct homework problems.
