March 24, 2002:
There's at least one typo in Problem Set #5. Problem 5b should
ask you to explain why the numbers you found in 5a are the only
solutions to x2 is congruent to negative 1
modulo 1013. Sorry about that.

If at all possible, you should attend the
Connecticut Valley Colloquium talk and dinner on
Wednesday, February 20. There's pizza at 6:00 in 416 Clapp, and
a lecture at 7:00 in 101 Dwight. The lecture is on number theory, and
treats topics we'll be studying later in the semester. See Margaret
for details and to reserve your slice of pizza.

varsitybooks.com lists the book as "on order," and has a slightly
higher price.
