In 2006 I received funding from Mount Holyoke College and the Scion Natural Science Association to take the 9 students in the bioethics class to Washington, D.C. to attend a meeting of President Bush's Council on Bioethics. We heard testimony and discussion on the topics of organ transplantation and informed consent of minors. Students also had a tour of AAAS, and many went to a conference on Bioethics and Politics: Past, Present and Future at the Center for American Progress. After the trip, students presented a mock panel debate for the introductory biology class. To read transcripts from the President's Council for the meeting we attended (April 19-20, 2006) you can go to the Website for the President's Council on Bioethics. |
