Two Tons of Books

Even after the war ended, Mount Holyoke activists were still at work. This photo, taken by Dorothy Laux of the Mount Holyoke Press Bureau, shows student members of the Student Action Committee, chaired by Arax Simsarian '43. The students sent a shipment of over two tons of books and scientific periodicals to war devastated libraries in England and Europe. Contributions were made by individual students and faculty members, the Mount Holyoke College Library, the Jones Library in Amherst, Bennington College and two nearby hospitals.(82)
