Victor Hugo's Les Miserables brings us into the world of the working class, but it leaves many questions unanswered. What is the image of particular sectors of the working class that Hugo is trying to convey? In what ways is his image true to reality, and it what ways is it a distortion? In our site we attempt to more fully understand both Hugo's representation of the working class, and the reality of French working class life at the time of Les Miserables.
