Monteé de M. de Saussure á la cime du Mont-Blanc

Rise of Mr. de Saussure to the summit of Mont Blanc, aquarellée engraving of Christian of Mechel (1737- 1817). This pastel engraving shows the expedition group of Monseur de Saussure, as well as the tools which they took with them. The geological excavation tools appear to be quite primitive--sticks (also used to aid the climb), rakes, shovels, along with packs of essential gear.
