Social Roles of the Upper-Middle Class

During the 19th Century, men and women of the upper middle class were very constrained in their behavior by society. The advice of family and friends was strictly adhered to in matters of matrimony, vocation, etc. Rules for etiquette were important to keep social and class roles clearly defined.
