Race is socially constructed, but RACISM is real. That was Prof. Gabriel's point. The reason why they hold special alum conferences is because those who attend are united by the racism that impacts them all. The focus of those conferences is to unite on that basis and try to change it. We don't have white conferences because very, very few of us, in comparison, experience racism. Women's colleges exist because a majority of us experience gender oppression on a regular basis.
