I agree with Jessica. Everyday in the Amazon region more indigenous people are killed. The only difference is that it is now in the name of capitalism that they are killed. This is especially true because of the expansion of the timber industry into the rain forest. The timber industry is capitalist because it now uses free wage laborers instead of slaves. But the change to capitalism is not making things much better for indigenous people. The companies take their land and destroy the wildlife. The people are left to starve or forced into prostitution. The consequences of this are that all of us are going to be affected as the natural oxygen creating tree cover shrinks.

: I dont really agree with the idea that if the tribes had been left alone, and the priest had never found them in the first place then the outcome would have been less horrific. There are few indigenous people that are still left in the world, and with every day "civilization" inches closer to them to the point that I feel that eventually the tribes would have had to face the same horrific outcome.
