Motivation to Work

Posted by Crystal on October 17, 2001 at 21:04:59:

We keep on discussing the issue of being productive and being lazy in different economic systems. Neo-classical theory suggests that, in fact no one really enjoys work, but instead despises it. Therefore, there is the theory that Capitalism acts as "motivation" for people to work. According to the system, one will work, because if one does not then he or she will not survive. Also, a lot of people argue that Communism allows for people to be lazy and not to work. How much is Capitalism a tool to motivate others? And by what means? By providing competition, instilling fear, or turning society into conquer or be conquered mode?
