I want to agree with Prof. Gabriel's ideas about self-employment in terms of socialization. My dad owns a small, fully independent auto repair shop, which was owned by his father before him. Though both my father and grandfather have hired people to help them with odd jobs, the garage doesn't have full-time employees. This is due to the high cost of providing full health insurance, as mandated in our state. What I find clever, is that, if the U.S. had a communal health care system, the garage could afford to hire employees, and thus, act as a capitalist enterprise.
Just an interesting quirk.
