I think that the Military Service question wasn't one of whether or not the Military performed a service, but whether they were part of a feudalistic society (creating a surplus). We were having difficulty determining the difference between providing a service and producing a surplus. I think that we also confused a hieriarchal society with a feudalistic one, although heiriarchy is more connected with a capitalist society. I guess what i'm getting at is that I, too, place the military in a service catagory.
