Men With Guns
The Indian farming people of this unidentified Latin American country are forced into feudalism. The army, which is comprised of other Indian men, acts as the feudal knight system. The control the demands of the peasants. The rich white people or feudal directors set the market price for whatever product the Indians cultivate be it corn or coffee, and the army enforces that price. As we see with the coffee people they set the price so low that they cannot afford to feed themselves so they have to work very hard to be able to even begin to afford food. In this environment the supply and demand curve works in the opposite way. The less money they pay the Indians the harder they will work inorder to live. The army uses the gurrilas as an excusse for the brutal way they treat the Indians. They claim they are killing and teaching those Indians who cooperate with the gueriallas a lesson. When the truth is that the guerillas came about as a way to fight against the army for the Indians. The army also pushes the Indians off of the good land, and forces them to work the worst land in the country. There is a major cultural difference between the white rich people or feudal lords and the Indians or feudal surfs. The man at the beginning of the movie states this clearly when he says that the doctor cannot give the Indians knowledge or any sort of normal benefits such as medicine because they are savages and they will misuse and abuse it.
