Boiler Room

Posted by Julie Hall on November 27, 2001 at 15:05:07:

I know that this is kind of a random question, but I was wondering about how J.T. Marlin got the phone numbers of people to call to buy shares. For example, why would they have called Harry? Although he was gullible, he didn't seem to have as much money as say the doctor they called. There was even a point in the film where Harry's wife asks him where the corporation got his name from, but he doesn't know. It seems that the people working for J.T Marlin would instead be going after the people they refer to as "whales" who have a lot of money to spend. I'm just confused as to how they know which people to call, and why they would call someone like Harry.
