It's a Wonderful Life and Gandhi

Posted by Misha Kavka on November 5, 2000 at 09:15:21:

I was thinking about how society changed when George was not born. This made
me think about how the assasination of Mohandas Gandhi might have changed world
history. Today India is a nuclear power facing off with Pakistan, also a nuclear
power, in what could be the world's most disastrous war. What if Gandhi had not
been killed on the 30th of January, 1948 at a little after 5 in the afternoon?
Of course, there were many who did not live to change the world, some perhaps
could have, like George, made this a better world. I guess the only thing we can
do is try to have a positive impact ourselves, to not shirk our responsibility to
life, to history. That's part of the struggle George was going through, yes?
