globalization today

Posted by amy booxbaum on December 4, 2000 at 14:38:25:

Today when professor Gabriel was speaking about globalization and large influencial corporations moving to different countries to maximize productivity, it made me think about the film Roger and Me. That is exactly what Roger Smith did by shutting down General Motors in Flint, and moving his factories to Mexico. Mr. Smith apparently was quite the capitalist because of his usage of cheap labor, and his knowledge of job insecurity in Mexico. Mr. Smith is also a perfect example of a CEO who participates in the neo-classical idea of greed. Roger Smith did not think of his workers' livelihoods, or the consequences he would be initiating in Flint, but how to increase his own wealth at the expense of others.
