Development

Among the important factors effecting the quality of the environment in our region is rapid and often poorly planned development. Degradation of environmental quality via development is usually a slow process that goes unnoticed until we notice the loss of open spaces and the increase in traffic congestion. However, during 1999 two events have raised local concern about development. The proposed expansion of a quarry on Mt. Tom and Ronald Burcume's proposed housing development adjacent to Skinner State Park have focused the area on development issues.

  • Holyoke Range Development

Recent development proposals for Mt .Tom and a parcel of land adjacent to Skinner State Park threaten the preservation of the Holyoke Range.
