Career Flexibility and Work/Family Balance
The Dean of Faculty provides support for faculty career flexibility, with the aim to make faculty research more productive and provide a more sustainable balance between the competing demands of work and family. This includes support for faculty who wish to shift their area of focus during their career, those who need support for their careers after becoming parents or caring for other family members, those who require leave to deal with medical issues, and flexible options for faculty who wish to retire from active teaching. The Dean of Faculty also works with other Deans in the Five College Consortium to provide support for faculty partners who are seeking their own faculty positions in the area.
Many programs have been updated or created thanks to the generous support provided by an Alfred P. Sloan Award for Faculty Career Flexibility.
