In cooperation with the English Department, the Weissman Center offers courses and other support through the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. This year, we welcome Mark Shea as the ESOL Coordinator. In addition to teaching a number of courses in the English Department, Mark will provide a variety of workshops and events to complement the teaching of writing and speaking to multilingual students.
Mark received his Ph.D. in Second Language Studies from Michigan State University where he also served as an ESL Instructor at the English Language Center and taught pedagogical grammar and methods courses for students in the College of Education. Mark has served as adjunct faculty for the Department of Language Skills at Lansing Community College, and as a Senior Teacher at the London School of Modern Languages in Prague, Czech Republic. He brings years of experience in language assessment, ESL instruction, and in-service staff training. Mark has a Master in Science in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Massachusetts.
