This exhibit features items from Mount Holyoke College's Historic Clothing Collection. This student-curated exhibit will display uniforms from the 1890s to the 1990s. Learn how women's colleges like Mount Holyoke were the birthplace of athletics for women in the United States, and how for many students (1870s to 1920s) athletic wear gave them the first taste of what it would be like to move unrestricted by corsets and clothing. Photos, diary entries, year books, letters, and alumnae themselves will help us tell the story of athletic life in a hundred year period.
