When to Apply

Major Fellowships

Major fellowships, or scholarship/award opportunities, are distinguished and very competitive. They offer substantial funding for travel, study, research, or undertaking projects. For most, the fellowship foundations require that students apply through their college fellowships office. Initial deadlines for submission of materials for these "campus process" fellowships are much earlier than the foundations’ final deadlines. Students interested in these awards should attend information sessions and meet with the fellowships advisor during the season before the deadline. (For example, for a summer deadline, attend a session/make an appointment in the spring, etc.).

Direct Apply Awards

With “direct apply” awards, students need not submit materials to the Office of Fellowships, but are encouraged to report their interest and seek assistance from the fellowships advisor at least two months before the application deadline.

Deadlines and Class Year Eligibility

The time of year for initial submission of fellowship application materials and the class years during which students may apply for these awards may be found on the Deadlines and Eligibility page.
