Awards For Student Athletes
Rhodes Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens between 18 and 24 for two or three years of study at Oxford University. (Citizens of other eligible countries must apply in their home countries even though they are studying in the U.S. Deadlines may be as early as June; see Rhodes web site for details.) Qualities sought include high intellectual and academic achievement, leadership, integrity of character, and the energy to use one’s talents to the full (as demonstrated by participation and success in sports). There is no limit on the number of candidates Mount Holyoke may endorse. MHC NOMINATION IS REQUIRED. MHC Deadline: Fall.
USGA Fellowship in Leadership and Service is a two-year, post-graduate commitment. It is aimed at developing recent college graduates' professional skills such as leadership and organizational efficiency, educating them in the role of philanthropy and the non-profit sector, and offering them experience in the golf world, specifically, with the governing body of golf. Deadline: Winter.
Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship was established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to encourage academic excellence in student-athletes. The Byers Scholarship is awarded annually to one male and one female student-athlete in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and potential for success in postgraduate study. It is intended that an individual named a Byers Scholar will be recognized as one who has combined the best elements of mind and body to achieve national distinction for his or her achievements, and promises to be a future leader in his or her chosen field of career service.
