Beijing: A Wider View
Deborah Yi '06
While studying abroad in Hong Kong, I had the opportunity to travel to Beijing, China. In America, we see skyscrapers and florescent signs, but how often do we really stop to think about the history, culture, and traditions that lie at the foundation of the city? In Beijing, even with the rapid expansion and development that has occurred in the recent past and is still ongoing, it is impossible to ignore the remnants of a rich and deep history of China's capitol. Note the view of Forbidden City, the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the view of the high-rise buildings in the background.
