How the European Constitution was Defeated
Simar Singh '06

One of the highlights of my year abroad was watching the events leading up to the French vote on the European Constitution. Although I wasn't happy with the result [a resounding "NON"], I learned a great deal about how public opinion is rallied and shaped, and the importance of media in any kind of vote. As my interest in the topic grew, I studied the political and economic dynamics between the different members of the EU and began to understand why some countries were for, and others against the constitution. This experience helped me understand different viewpoints and question my own ideals. This picture to me represents the epitome of how "NON" camp won the vote and succeeded in defeating the European Constitution.
