Three Barley Harvesters, Village of Burr, Spiti Valley, India

WINNER

In the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh agriculture is of the greatest importance. Forty-five percent of the state's economy is contributed by agriculture, while 93% of the state's population depends directly on agricultural production. Cereals, especially barley and wheat, are the most common crops. Almost all grains in the region are planted and harvested by hand and are used as food, building and craft supplies.
While men own the land, it is the women that are responsible for most of the planting and harvesting.
