Tea Workers in Sylhet, Bangladesh

Honorable Mention

This picture was taken at the Finlay Tea Garden in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Workers on the tea plantation are paid 30 taka a day, which is less than 50 cents USD. Frequently, generations of families work on the same plantation side by side. In this picture, the two female workers are from a Hindu village, as indicated by the white conch bracelets and red smaller bracelets that they wear on both hands. Their broad conical hats that protect against the sun and the rain while the sacks upon their shoulders are full of the tea leaves that they have just plucked.
