The Banaue rice terraces of Northern Luzon in the Philippines are neighbor to the original terraces of Botod, recently considered the eighth wonder of the world. At 2,000 years old, their success testifies to the extraordinary compromise that can be reached between concurrent development and conservation of natural resources, through determination and commitment. No doubt those who toiled to create these livelihoods were motivated by the prospective of future generations’ enhanced success, and compromised a definite amount of comfort during their lifetime for the long-term application of the terraces.

Now it’s our turn; how much are you compromising?
