RUNNER-UP

Two thousand people gathered in support of a march for LGBTQ rights in Krakow, Poland, which would go through the old town and end in the central square. The crowd included not only Poles, but also people from all over the world. What brought us all together for this incredible moment was the common cause of promoting equality. As we marched through town, people waved from balconies in support, out of curiosity, or in protest. As we walked over the cobblestone streets and past Wawel Castle, I thought of past persecutions of minorities at the very place we stood, and how we were marching for equality, so the past does not repeat itself.
