In order to provide new international students and those who entered last spring with a chance to experience this uniquely American holiday by spending it with a family in the U.S., the McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives is sponsoring two programs (on and off campus) for which you may apply. This year Thanksgiving is on Thursday, November 24th. Thanksgiving Break begins on Wednesday, November 23rd and ends on Sunday, November 27th.
Members of the Class of 1980, as well as other alums who live in the New England and New York area, have graciously agreed to host international students for all or part of Thanksgiving Break. This tradition, begun over 15 years ago, allows international students to spend time off campus with a MHC alumna and her family during this break. You will need to speak to your alumna host and find out how long she and her family can host you. You should not assume that you may spend the entire break at her house. Also note that you are responsible for transportation costs. If taking a bus or train, you should plan to arrive at the bus or train station in the city nearest to your host's home. Your host will likely be able to pick you up there. Bus and train schedules are available online.
To participate in the off-campus program, please fill out the off-campus application, print it out, sign it and drop it in the box labeled Thanksgiving Break in the McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives. The deadline for submission of applications for an off-campus host is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.
If you prefer to stay on campus during Thanksgiving Break, the Dean of Students' Office offers a program which will pair you with a local host with whom you can have Thanksgiving Dinner. You should be receiving an email from that office sometime in late October or early November.
