Michael T. Klare is the Five College Professor of Peace and World Security Studies (a joint appointment at Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst), positions he has held since 1985.  In this capacity, he has taught courses in arms control and disarmament, contemporary conflict dynamics, and global resource politics at all five member institutions.

Professor Klare has written widely on international security affairs, U.S. military policy, the arms trade, and global resource conflict.  His most recent books are Resource Wars (2001) and Blood and Oil (2004); his newest book, Rising Powers, Shrinking Planet: The New Geopolitics of Energy, will be published in April 2008.

Professor Klare is the Defense Correspondent of The Nation magazine and is a Contributing Editor of Current History.  He also serves on the board of directors of the Arms Control Association and the National Priorities Project.
