Fred Baumgarten

Director of Foundation Relations and Sponsored Research

As director of the Grants Office, Fred oversees efforts to raise both institutional funds from foundations, corporations, and government sources—for scholarships, capital needs, program development, and other priorities—and sponsored research support for faculty research and scholarship.  

Joining Mount Holyoke in January 2018, Fred is thrilled to be part of a talented four-person team in the Grants Office. He works under the direction of VP for Advancement Kassandra Jolley and Dean of the Faculty Jon Western.

Dyan Wiley

Associate Director of Foundation Relations
Under the direction of the Director of Foundation Relations and Sponsored Research, Dyan works to strategically plan and implement a comprehensive program for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundation, government, and corporate funders for institutional priorities and major objectives of the College. She, along with the Director, work with a broad array of campus departments and programs. In addition, Dyan manages the College’s internal faculty grants program on behalf of the office of the Dean of Faculty.

Laura Bundesen

Sponsored Research Officer

Working in close consultation with the Dean of Faculty, Laura assists all faculty in finding and applying for external research funding from government agencies, foundations and associations. She provides grant seeking resources, assists faculty in finding appropriate opportunities, and reads, edits, and shepherds all proposals through required internal approvals. She also manages many of the compliance programs related to federally funded grants. Laura is also a professional mixed media artist.

Katie Walker

Coordinator, Nexus Program & Foundation Relations and Sponsored Research

Katie supports the Director of the Nexus Program, two faculty members in the instruction of College 211 (a post-internship course), and the Nexus track chairs. In addition, she supports several academic and curricular initiatives, including the Lynk (a curriculum-to- career initiative which includes a funded internship experience) and LEAP Symposium. Katie also provides assistance with proposal preparation, grant stewardship, database management and reporting activities for Foundation Relations and Sponsored Research.
