Incoming Student Letter
I want to congratulate and welcome you to the Mount Holyoke community. As you are preparing to come to campus, there are several health related topics that I want to bring to your attention.
Pre-entrance Health Requirements
All incoming students must complete these requirements prior to arrival on campus. Please see Pre-Entrance Health Requirements Checklist.
College Health Services
Our services are available to all Mount Holyoke Students. Please see our website www.mtholyoke.edu/health for the description of services, hours of operation and billing practices. Counseling Services is a separate department located within the Health Center. Refer to www.mtholyoke.edu/counseling for information. Please also note the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Project at www.mtholyoke.edu/adap.
Student Medical Insurance
Massachusetts Law requires all Students taking nine (9) credits or more either demonstrate proof of comparable health insurance coverage or purchase a Massachusetts student health insurance plan through their institution of higher education. In order to assure that all Mount Holyoke College students are properly insured to meet the state law, all students are initially charged on their student account for the cost of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan. It is then your choice whether to continue this insurance plan or waive the insurance plan.
Mount Holyoke College staff will review all waivers during the waiver process. Students who have completed a waiver with an insurance plan that does not meet the definitions of Massachusetts Student Health Insurance Requirements will be rebilled for the Student Medical Insurance Plan.
Mount Holyoke offers a Student Injury and Illness Medical Insurance Plan, which is effective August 15, 2014 through August 14, 2015. Details regarding cost and benefits will be available at www.gallagherstudent.com/mtholyoke after July 1, 2014. A description of the charge will come by email from Student Financial Services with your July bill.
Medical Clearance for Participation in Varsity or Club Sports
All sports participants must have had a complete physical exam within six months of the start of practice and meet all pre-entrance health requirements. Varsity and club athletes must also complete the Sickle Cell Trait Form. Your current medical provider should do the physical exam. Please read the medical history and physical exam carefully and have all forms signed and appropriately dated.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your health needs, please do not hesitate to contact the Health Center by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (413-538-2089).
