This event hopes to provide a safe space for diverse voices. We encourage differences of gender, ethnicity, race, nationality, ability,language, age, sexuality, dietary needs, lived experience, and medium (of performance).  We are encouraging students and members of the community to bring a poem, song, interpretive dance, monologue, rap, spoken word, diolgoue, one act play…or improv!

A frank conversation about why sexual discussions are taboo within  so many Asian/ Pacific/Asian American cultures. What cultural mores and traditions are at play? Why do many adults and young people have difficulty having honest talk about sexuality, and why are sexual health conversations often considered to be inappropriate most of the times.

Intersex on the Brain

In this unique blend of spoken word performance and Intersex 101, author and intersex activist Thea Hillman navigates the tricky intersections of sex, gender, and sexual orientation and suggests ways to make the world a safer place for differences of all kinds.

As a poet, performer, and former board member of the Intersex Society of North America, Thea Hillman advocates for the rights of intersex people. She is the author of the Lamda Award-winning book, "Intersex (for lack of a better word)" and the critically acclaimed book "Depending on the Light."

Trans U: An Introduction to Transgender Issues on Campus

Transgender issues continue to be a challenging topic for college campuses. Students, staff, and faculty are looking for opportunities to discuss issues of gender and to understand how including transgender issues builds on and contributes to other health and social justice issues on campus. This interactive session, presented by Sam Lurie of Transgender Training and Advocacy, will examine basic terminology, issues in access to health resources, and distinctions between gender identity and sexual orientation.
