Situational Awareness: A Career at the US Department of State
Before I travel overseas to a foreign country, what are the security risks that I need to assess to ensure that I will be as safe as possible? How can I listen to my instinct and gut feeling to get myself out of a dangerous situation? What are some precautions I can take to avoid such situations? As an undergraduate highly interested in the field of security, this summer I had the incredible opportunity to answer those questions while working at the Department of State in Washington D.C. assisting at the Security Overseas Seminar at the Foreign Service Institute helping to prepare government employees for life at post abroad by analyzing and identifying risks and reducing vulnerabilities to criminal and terrorist threat overseas.
