Gifts and Donations

The Mount Holyoke College Library welcomes the donation of books and other materials suitable for the Library's collection. Such donations should enrich the Library's collection and provide valuable research resources for the community.

Gifts are accepted with the understanding that they become the property of Mount Holyoke College.

Not all gift materials are suitable for this collection. Gifts are added when they meet the same general collection criteria as new purchases. They must be relevant to the curriculum, of appropriate academic level and quality, in good physical condition and free of restrictions that would limit their usefulness to our collection as a whole.  Items not needed in the Library's collection are usually donated to other libraries or offered in the Library booksale.

Donors will receive a letter acknowledging only receipt of the gift; it will not include appraisal of the monetary value of the gift. Appraisals for tax purposes are the responsibility of the donor. Books added to the collection will be identified with gift plates.

Gifts may be delivered to the LITS Administrative Office, Williston 635, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m-5:00 p.m. Any cost associated with shipping or delivery of gift materials is the responsibility of the donor.

If you have questions about donating materials to the Library, please contact Kathleen Norton, Head of Collection Development at 413-538-2158 or Krista Denno in the LITS Administrative Office at 413-538-2225.

For information on donating personal papers or rare books to the Mount Holyoke College Archives and Special Collections, please see their page on Donating Materials.
