Mount Holyoke offers several options for building websites and publishing content to the web:
WordPress at Mount Holyoke
- This locally implemented instance of the popular WordPress software is the College's web publishing tool for individuals and non-departmental or non-institutional sites
- It has flexibility in look and feel, determined by site owners based on available themes
- Individual faculty sites, lab sites, blogs, student org sites, and student and class eportfolios are appropriate for publication in WordPress
- LITS supports individual use of WordPress through the Help Desk and RIS Liaisons
- Student Web Technology Consultants (SwebTechs) provide student support and training on Web-related topics and various software applications, as well as limited one-on-one lab assistance.
Pros: Sites can be simple or complex, public or private, and be a blog, a site, or both. Sites allow for social media integration. Sites can have multiple authors and contributors.
Cons: Limited number of themes available. Limited number of plugins available.
Google Sites - Open to all Mount Holyoke faculty, staff and students
- This is a web-authoring application available as part of our G-Suite for Education
- It has limited customization of look and feel
- Individual faculty sites, lab sites, and course sites are appropriate for Google Sites
- Current MHC faculty, staff and students can create Google Sites by just choosing the app once you've logged in to Google
- LITS supports use of Google Sites through the Help Desk and RIS Liaisons
Pros: Quick and easy solution for hosting content. Good for a collaborative webspace; sites can be shared by Google groups, can easily be set to be private, and can integrate with other Google tools.
Cons: Not very visually appealing. Does not have a blogging component. Has google.com in URL.
- Drupal is the College’s official web publishing tool.
- It has a consistent, branded look and feel throughout.
- Most official college websites and official faculty profiles are published in Drupal.
- Access is managed by the Office of Communications.
- LITS supports Drupal through the Help Desk; Communications also supports Drupal.

The College currently offers several options for file storage beyond your desktop which we encourage everyone to use. There are also some legacy networked spaces, now deprecated and no longer provided except in certain special cases. Please contact the Help Desk for further information.
Shared Departmental Space: /ambr/depts
Your office or department might be using network space on "ambr" to store and share files. If so, you can map your computer to access these spaces as follows:
MAC: Go -> Connect to Server -> smb://ambr/depts
PC: Map Network Drive: \\ambr\depts
These are networked spaces that are being phased out and no longer provided except in certain special cases. Please contact the Help Desk for further information.
Private Network Space: /mhc/USERNAME
MAC: Go -> Connect to Server -> smb://mhc/USERNAME
PC: Map Network Drive: \\mhc\USERNAME
Individual Web Space: /webspace/USERNAME
MAC: Go -> Connect to Server -> smb://webspace/USERNAME
PC: Map Network Drive: \\webspace\USERNAME
Course Web Space (faculty only): /ambr/webcourses/USERNAME
MAC: Go -> Connect to Server -> smb://ambr/webcourses/USERNAME

Note: Most course materials should be posted online through Moodle.
Please use the VPN service to map network drives just as if they were on campus.
