The Fimbel Maker & Innovation Lab is located in Prospect Hall. Everyone is welcome during open hours. For training on specific equipment or for access when the Fimbel Lab is closed, begin by attending an orientation and agreeing to our values and waiver. The Fimbel Maker & Innovation Lab enables all members of the Mount Holyoke community to follow their creativity, curiosity and passions in a safe and supportive environment that encourages exploration.
To keep the space welcoming to novices and experts alike, please adhere to our values:
All are welcome in the space, regardless of skill level, background or project. This is a judgment-free space.
A shared space must be an organized space, with tools in their places and surfaces ready for the next person to work.
- Ask if you are uncertain.
- Speak up if you see others being unsafe.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Many of our tools require training or require supervision for access. See policies and equipment in the Fimbel Maker & Innovation Lab Handbook for more information. Do not use any tool if you have not been trained on it.
- The staff is here to help you learn.
- Help those around you who have questions.
There are many ways to get started in the Fimbel Maker & Innovation Lab. Before using the space for the first time: All users must agree to act according to our share values and sign the waiver for non-academic use. The Fimbel Maker & Innovation Lab supports walk-ins.
The Fimbel Lab is open and available to everyone in the Mount Holyoke College community. Student-staffed hours are 5 – 9 pm.
When the space is in use by a class, workshop or event, restrictions to certain equipment may apply. See the Fimbel Maker & Innovation Lab Handbook for a list of equipment that may be restricted. Make sure the space is available by going to Reservations and Events.
Attending a workshop is a great way to get started. Our introductory workshops provide a step-by-step guide on using the equipment. To register and see what workshops are coming up, head to Reservations and Events.
