Michael Flynn, director of the mathematics leadership program and remote-teaching expert, offers parents advice on looking for laptops in preparing for remote learning in a recent article on Fatherly: look for connectivity, not gizmos and gimmicks. Flynn has also written about remote learning for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and spoken about it with Channel 12 News.

“Everything today that is consumer-grade is good, with good resolution,” he said. “The thing for distance learning that’s most important is internet connectivity. Invest money in better internet service,” he said.

The most important thing is that the laptop enables the student to make and maintain a strong connection with their teachers and learning activities over the internet. Flynn’s strongest advice: “Upgrade your hardware and your service.”
