The Office of the Dean of Students, in association with the Student Government Association (SGA), will host a new program, the Day of Listening, Thursday, March 9, from 4 to 5 pm. Launched by a campuswide "thought-provoking-questions publicity campaign," the Day of Listening is designed to get people talking across differences and between commonalities--listening to each other in new ways about issues of personal and community importance. More than 40 staff and faculty volunteer facilitators will meet with students and other staff and faculty to participate in 19 simultaneous small group conversations held in every residence hall and the Frances Perkins House.
Facilitators will meet the week before to prep for the March 9 event by preparing a list of possible topics for discussion. Topics will focus on issues of community, how we fit into the community as individuals, the power of dialogue, and how we can continue to really connect to one another.
All MHC students, staff, and faculty are welcome to join any of the conversations. Students are encouraged to attend the conversations within their own residence halls, but are welcome at any conversation. Day students are encouraged to join the conversation at the FP House.
