Athletes Honored at Awards Celebration

May 11, 2006 - At the annual Athletics Awards Celebration senior field hockey player Katie Marquis received the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award, as voted on by the members of the Athletics Department. The criteria for this award include achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, receiving All-Conference recognition or postseason qualification, and serving as a good role model and well-respected team member. A three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree, two-time NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team selection and 2005 All-Region Second Team member, Marquis certainly fulfilled all the criteria.

Before Marquis received her award, each coach recognized the winners of the individual team awards, as voted by the team members. Listed below are this year's recipients:

Before the evening concluded, Director of Athletics Laurie Priest presented the Athletic Director's Award to senior soccer player and SGA President Katie Kraschel. Kraschel worked hard this past year to help raise awareness of the need for a new track and turf field at Mount Holyoke; this new facility project is now in the planning stages, thanks in part to her tireless efforts.
