March 25, 2002 - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) recently announced the Academic All-Conference Team selections for the winter, 2001-02 season. Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 after the fall 2001 semester, attained at least sophomore standing, and competed as a starter or key reserve. There were 66 student-athletes from the 10 NEWMAC institutions that qualified for this team, five of whom are Mount Holyoke students.

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) posted the Academic All-American Team selections for the winter, 2001-02 season. There were 52 women's teams (NCAA Division III institutions) that qualified for this award, and Mount Holyoke was ranked fifth with a team G.P.A. of 3.42 (up one notch from sixth place last year). The Lyons lead the NEWMAC conference with this ranking, as well. In order to receive this honor, the entire team must have a combined cumulative G.P.A. of at least 2.8, and a value of 3.25 and above is considered superior by the CSCAA.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced the Academic All-American Cross Country Team selections for the fall, 2001 season. There were 104 women's teams (Division III institutions) that qualified for this award, and Mount Holyoke was one of three NEWMAC schools on the list. In order to receive this honor, the entire team must have a combined cumulative GPA of at least 3.1. The 21 members of Mount Holyoke's cross country team made the grade with a combined GPA of 3.38:
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) also recently announced the 2001 Division III National Academic Squad. Criteria for selection to the National Academic Squad include: (1) the athlete must have attained a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.3 through the fall 2001 semester, and (2) the athlete must have been a starter or key reserve during the 2001 season. This year there were 105 institutions represented on this squad, and there were 12 student-athletes from Mount Holyoke who fulfilled these criteria (the third highest amount from any one school).
