In our latest Video Bookshelf entry, author Ann Karus Meeropol discusses her new book, A Male President for Mount Holyoke College: The Failed Fight to Maintain Female Leadership, 1934–1937.
It tells the story of how some trustees—convinced that a man should lead the women's college—achieved their goal despite strong opposition from Mount Holyoke faculty and alumnae.
The book enlightens readers about both a single presidential succession and a national controversy over female leadership.
Meeropol used material in the Mount Holyoke College Archives and Special Collections extensively to research her book.
• Meeropol will speak about her book at Mount Holyoke on April 9 at 7 pm in Dwight Hall 101.
