On October 15 at 3 pm, the Mount Holyoke music department presents its final event in the Women in the Arts: Mount Holyoke Alums Return! concert series. The Englewinds Ensemble will perform music written by Sarah Davol '81 (Bernarda Alba orchestra/Lincoln Center), Tomoko Ohno (DIVA Jazz Orchestra/Lincoln Center), Dawn Avery (Grammy nominated), as well as others in a concert that honors the monarch butterfly program at the Hitchcock Center for the Environment in Amherst.
Englewinds members are some of New York City's finest musicians. They perform at Lincoln Center with Mostly Mozart and American Ballet Theatre; on Broadway with Phantom of the Opera and other productions; and with Liza Minnelli, Claudio Roditi, and many others.
Since 1998, the ensemble has premiered more than 50 works to protest noise pollution and overbuilding in New Jersey's wetlands, to heighten awareness of Lenape Native American history, to call attention to diminishing turtle and monarch butterfly habitat, and to emphasize the need for clean drinking water worldwide.
The concert, which is supported by the Warbeke Memorial Fund, is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Michèle Scanlon or call 413-538-2306.
