ESPN’s Wendi Nix to Speak at Mount Holyoke
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (March 30, 2009) – ESPN reporter and host Wendi Nix will be visiting Mount Holyoke College on Thursday, April 2 to speak to students about how she has developed her career as a female correspondent in a traditionally male dominated sports industry. She will share her experiences, memorable moments and offer advice to those interested in careers such as journalism, sport broadcasting, entertainment, sport management and communications.
Her presentation will be open to the campus community and will take place in Cleveland L2 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. It will be hosted by the Mount Holyoke Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in conjunction with the College’s Career Development Center.
A native of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Nix joined ESPN in August of 2006 as a reporter and host. Her duties include reporting on college and pro football, golf and NASCAR for various ESPN programs such as SportsCenter, College Game Day, NFL Countdown and NASCAR Now. In addition, she is a host and reporter for College Football Live.
Nix joined ESPN from NBC affiliate WHDH-TV in Boston, where she spent three years as a sports anchor and reporter. Prior to joining WHDH-TV in June, 2003, she was a national sports reporter for FOXSports and an anchor-reporter for FOXSports New England for two years. She also reported and anchored for the New England Sports Network (NESN) for a year starting in 2001.
Her television career began at ABC affiliate WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach-Florence, S.C., in 1999, where she covered NASCAR and high school sports in addition to news.
Nix was a two-year captain of the golf team at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., where she earned degrees in French and Economics in 1996. She earned a masters degree in sports management at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1997.
