After breaking ground last year at the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex, the College will celebrate the opening of the renovated and expanded dance complex and fitness center on September 25, from 10 am to 1 pm.
The Mount Holyoke community is invited to stop by Kendall Hall to view the new dance studios and fitness center facilities. Tours and orientation workshops will be offered on the hour and half hour from 10 am to 1 pm. Prizes will be raffled during every tour, including T-shirts, water bottles, and MHC Fitness USB bracelets. The dance studios have been open since April 2009; the fitness center will officially open for use at 2 pm.
Beginning the week of September 27, Kendall staff will offer additional orientation workshops to demonstrate the use of the new cardiovascular and strength-training equipment. As a part of the ongoing fitness program, a variety of drop-in exercise classes will be offered, including spinning, Pilates, yoga, and zumba. More specific information about class offerings and times will be posted on the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex Web site.
"Health and fitness are so important to the well-being of our students and other members of the Mount Holyoke community,” said athletic director Laurie Priest. “We are excited to open the new fitness center along with a variety of exercise classes and hope that many people will take advantage of these new facilities and programs."
The dance department will celebrate the opening of the new studio theatre at its fall faculty concert November 12-14. The concert will include Mark Morris’s Gloria restaged by Five College dancers with live choral and orchestral music, a new David Dorfman piece, and new work by MHC dance faculty. President Joanne Creighton will deliver opening remarks before the performance on November 13.
