In the 1980s, Lowell Gudmundson wrote several articles about Costa Rica and its relations with the United States. Now a Latin American studies professor at Mount Holyoke, Gudmundson's publications have recently been cited in a two-part series in La Nación written by historian David Díaz. The series describes the turbulent 1980s amid Central America’s civil wars and the Reagan Administration’s interventionist politics leading to the Iran-Contra scandal.
